Four universities in Glasgow have vowed to strike over the space of 14 days.

The walk out will be spread across February and March, with 74 universities throughout the UK taking part.

The dispute between the university and board is down to twofold: they are calling for better pay and working conditions and are also disputing a series of changes made to their pension.

According to the University and College Union (UCU) changes to their pension are leaving them £240,000 worse off. A member of the scheme will pay around £40,000 more into their pension but receive nearly £200,000 less in retirement leaving.

The union is also walking out on the decline of value in staff pay after findings portrayed that the pay of staff has dropped by around 17% in real-terms since 2009.

Glasgow University, Glasgow Caledonian University, Strathclyde University and the Glasgow School of Art will all be walking out.

The strikes will take place on:

  • Week one - Thursday 20 & Friday 21 February
  • Week two - Monday 24, Tuesday 25 & Wednesday 26 February
  • Week three - Monday 2, Tuesday 3, Wednesday 4 & Thursday 5 March
  • Week four - Monday 9, Tuesday 10, Wednesday 11, Thursday 12 & Friday 13 March
