Coatbridge Sunnyside station has been locked down by police amid an "incident". 

Services on the route are having to pass through the station as a result. 

ScotRail made the announcement on social media shortly before 5.30pm.

Glasgow to Milngavie/Dalmuir/Balloch and Helensburgh services have been affected.

Police Scotland have since confirmed that a young man was found unconscious near to the station and has been taken to hospital.

A force spokeswoman said: “Around 4.20pm this afternoon, police received a report of a young man found unconscious in Gartsherrie Road, Coatbridge.

“Emergency services attended and he was taken to hospital.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”

ScotRail earlier confirmed the incident was meaning trains could not stop at the station.

They said: "Train services are currently unable to call at Coatbridge Sunnyside, while the emergency services deal with an incident near the railway.

"Blairhill or Coatdyke are the nearest stations.

"There is no access to the station or car park, while emergency services deal with an incident."

The nature of the incident is not yet known.

The disruption on the railway line is expected to last until 9pm.
