A COMEDY club has paid an amazing tribute to Glasgow legend Billy Connolly.

Celebrating its first birthday on Wednesday night, the Glee Club unveiled a cake in the shape of the comedian's iconic banana boots.

The Renfield Street club opened its doors a year ago this month and to celebrate, staff voted on which comedy icon they should honour for its first anniversary.

The cake was designed by an award-winning Scottish cake designer.

Handmade with toffee sponge and airbrushed to mimic the Big Yin's iconic boots, the cake proved a hit at Wednesday night's bash.

The evening included performances from Mark Nelson, Christopher KC, Ashley Storrie and rising stars Christopher Macarthur-Boyd and Shona Lawson.

The Glee Founder Mark Tughan commented: "We opened the club to showcase and support stand-up comedy in the city and we are thrilled that our first year has been such a success.

"Glaswegians are known for their humour, so the top-notch acts that the club has attracted and sold-out shows really is testament to this."
