One of Glasgow's most popular Italian restaurants has once again applied to take over the premises of a former bank.

Eusebi Deli first expressed interest in the West End location across the road from their successful Park Road restaurant in July 2019.

Planners refused the previous application after they felt the addition of a flue duct would not suit the property on 11 Gibson Street.

The restaurant owners adapted their planning application and are now proposing to equip the building's chimney to dispose of cooking fumes.

A statement submitted with their planning application complained that the property has been left unoccupied for about four years leaving the former bank in a state of "disrepair".

The statement read: "The vacant bank now sits uncomfortably within the vibrant, diverse and bustling streetscape of this West End street.

“The proposed development will finally inject life back into the property through changing the use from vacant bank to dynamic family-run restaurant, truly reflective of the surrounding area."

Plans show the restaurant will be spread over several floors.

They propose an open kitchen and prep area on the bottom floor and a mezzanine gallery dining area above.

The Eusebi business currently employs a total of 58 people and if approved the additional location would create 18 jobs.

The statement continued: "The Eusebi family have been operating businesses in both the East and West End of Glasgow for over 70 years.

"Now into the fourth generation, Giovanna and Eddie Eusebi opened their first deli restaurant on the corner of Park Road which involved the extensive refurbishment of another site that had lain empty for nearly 15 years, breathing life into the building through its vibrant fit-out and quality of food for the local neighbourhood."

The application is pending consideration by council officials.
