Staff at a Glasgow hospital have thanked knitters after being inundated with donations of hats for premature babies.

Neonatal nurses at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital put out a plea for baby hats as part of the national Warm Baby Project and received enough to fill several black bags.

Denise Siparis, a nurse, said the hospital had received so many hats it was now struggling to find storage and has requested that helpers keep knitted hats at home for now.

She posted: "Huge, massive thank you to everyone that responded to the appeal for baby hats for the QEUH.

"We have been inundated with beautiful hats, we are truly grateful to all you. We are so overwhelmed with the response that we are now struggling to store these.

"Please can you hold on to any hats you have until we work through our stock."
