A woman has been left seriously injured in hospital after a fire at a flat in the North of Glasgow.

Emergency services raced to Killearn Street in Possilpark at around 5.30pm yesterday amid reports of a fire within the stairwell of a building.

Police immediately taped off the area - which has been remained cordoned off almost 24 hours later.

Officers say a woman, 31, was taken to hospital where she is still receiving treatment.

An investigation into the incident has been launched.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Police were called to assist the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service at a report of a fire in a stairwell at an address in Killearn Street, Glasgow at around 5.30pm on Thursday.

"A 31-year-old woman was taken to hospital by the Scottish Ambulance Service with serious injuries where she remains receiving treatment.

"Enquiries into the cause of the fire remain ongoing and officers continue to assist fire service personnel with this incident."

The Glasgow Times contacted the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service but they were unable to provide further comment.
