A NEW supported living service to help adults with severe mental health issues and complex needs will be introduced in Glasgow's West End.

Glasgow City Council is expected to grant the St Peter’s Mental Health Supported Living contract, of £258,000 per year, to the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH ) who will operate the service in Partick over five years.

The aim is to help individuals who struggle to engage with their community and increase their independence at the site of the former St Peter's School.

The project will follow the guidelines of adult mental health services in Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

In 2015 the local authority and Partick Housing Association reached an agreement to develop the former school on 42 Chancellor Street.

It was subsequently transformed into 16 units for mid-market rent, 37 social rented properties and eight units for supported accommodation.

In December 2019, social work services published an open tender opportunity on behalf of the Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership to deliver a supported living service at the new build.

It will be for individuals who require support with their mental health and wellbeing and as well as assistance assistance within this setting with a 24 hour staff presence.

It will provide recovery focused interventions to individuals with a range of support needs with a view to increasing the individuals’ independence.

The project will launch this year and is expected to run for at least five years with the option to extend the contract for a maximum of two years based on satisfactory review outcomes.

It will be discussed at a committee meeting this week.
