A man appeared in the dock today accused of harassing an SNP MP.
Jonathan Bell, 34, is charged with causing the Glasgow North West MP, Carol Monaghan, 47, “fear or alarm” between January 9, 2018 and April 1, 2019.
Prosecutors claim Bell smeared tomato ketchup or a similar substance on the doors and windows of her constituency office in Glasgow’s Partick.
Bell is also accused of taking pictures of the incident and posting them on social media with an “offensive comment.”
It is alleged that Bell caused Ms Monaghan to believe her life was in danger due to other social media comments allegedly made by Bell.
Bell’s is accused of making a call to Ms Monaghan’s office and leaving an offensive voicemail message.
The final section of his charge claims Bell made an offensive remark on social media.
Bell pleaded not guilty at a hearing today at Glasgow Sheriff Court.
Sheriff Alan Mackenzie did not set a trial diet, but a further hearing will take place in April when a date is expected to be set.
Bell, from Partick, Glasgow, was bailed meantime.
