Residents of flats devasted by fire at Lancefield Quay face a two-year wait to return as work finally gets underway to restore the landmark building.

More than 2000 residents were affected and forced to evacuate the Clydeside flats on December 9 with up to 60 firefighters deployed to tackle the blaze.

No-one was injured.

So far residents from 68 out of the 92 apartments have been able to return, with those from the other 24 flats still displaced.

They now face a two-year wait to return to their homes as work begins to partially demolish and reinstate the building - with the worst affected flats being brought down from March 2.

Glasgow-based Nixon has been appointed to oversee the project, which is expected to be completed towards the end of 2021.

Originally a quayside transit store built in 1947, the building was converted in the late eighties as part of an urban renewal plan for the city.

"Our priority is to begin the first phase of works and to ensure we work together with residents and contractors and all those affected by the fire.

"The building is loved by its residents and we look forward to returning it to them and to the city.”
