THUGS broke into a care home, stealing thousands in a recent incident. 

In a heartless attack, thieves took a "four-figure sum" from Crosslaw House care home in Lanark.

Police are searching for the suspects who targeted the care home for the elderly in the early hours of Saturday morning. 

People took to social media to express their disgust for the culprits.

One wrote: "How desperate some people are. A care home. Really sad"

One user called the thieves "degenerates".

Another simply said: "Lowest of the low breaking into a care home".

Lanarkshire Police Division said in a social media post: "Overnight into the 01/03/20, a break-in occurred at Crosslaw House care home, Home Street Lanark. A four-figure sum of cash was stolen.

"Witnesses are sought. Those with information are urged to call 101, quoting incident number 1132 of 01/03/20, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

A spokeswoman for Care Concern, which owns the South Lanarkshire care home said: "No one was harmed or distressed by the break-in and it was purely office-based. 

"We are working with Police Scotland and are establishing an inventory of what was stolen"
