A PAEDOPHILE who failed to carry out 160 hours unpaid work because he was in jail was brought back to court and sentenced to 16 months.

John Bambridge, 40, was snared in January 2017 by police officers who found 1087 indecent pictures of children on a hard drive and iPad.

Glasgow-man Bambridge pleaded guilty to possession of indecent images and avoided jail.

Instead he was ordered to perform 160 hours of unpaid work and placed on a tag for 100 days.

However, a further vile stash of 4,000 indecent pictures and young girls’ underwear were found at his parent’s home where Bambridge was staying and he was jailed for 43 months last December at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

Defence lawyer Lindsay Gaughan explained that this meant Bambridge was unable to carry out the unpaid work because he was in prison.

Sheriff Ian Miller at a special hearing rescinded the community payback order and ordered Bambridge to be jailed for 16 months.

The court heard police attended Bambridge’s parents house where he was living in their garage in January 2017.

Officers searched the garage and uncovered a hard drive and an iPad belonging to Bambridge.

He told an officer: “I don’t mean to be ignorant but I feel like jumping in the Clyde.”

Bambridge was asked why and responded “I’m sure you will find out in due course.”

The court was told that Bambridge's fascination with vile photos began several years ago when he stumbled across an indecent picture of a child and due to his lifestyle and alcohol consumption, his interest in child images had increased.”

The 1,087 indecent images were of children aged between four and 16.

Both sentences will be served concurrently.
