A THUG who fractured a pub bouncer's nose and eye socket after being refused entry was fined £3000 today.

Martin Friel pounced on Scott Fraser outside Grace's Irish Bar in Glasgow's Merchant City in December 2018.

Friel repeatedly punched the 39-year-old who remains affected by the attack.

The 35-year-old pled guilty last month at Glasgow Sheriff Court to assaulting Mr Fraser to his severe injury and permanent impairment.

Friel, of East Kilbride, Lanarkshire, was ordered to pay Mr Fraser £3000 in compensation by Sheriff Andrew Cubie.

Friel was also ordered to do 300 hours of unpaid work within six months.

A hearing was told Friel had left the pub - popular with Celtic fans - to have a cigarette.

Prosecutor Lauren Staunton said: “He told the bouncer he thought people were taking drugs in the toilets.

“He told Mr Fraser he was not doing anything to tackle the problem in the toilet.

“Friel was then told he was not getting back in.”

The attacker initially punched the door steward on the head.

There was a struggle and both men fell to the ground.

Miss Staunton added: “Friel continued to punch Mr Fraser to the head and face.”

Friel was arrested after a 999 call was made.

Mr Fraser was treated at hospital for his injuries.

The court was told he "continues to experience numbness to his cheek".

He also pulled a muscle in his right leg as a result of the incident.
