TWO Scots have been selected for the GB and NI team for the European Throwing Cup, which will take place later this month.

Discus throwers Kirsty Law and Nick Percy have made it into the 11-strong team for the event in Leiria, Portugal from on the 21st and 22nd of March.

Both Law and Percy have had only a single outing so far this year, with the duo both emerging victorious at the Loughborough Winter Throws Open last weekend.

Law took the win in Loughborough with a throw of 56.38m, which was the Sale Harriers athlete’s best-ever season-opener.

And Percy won the event for the first time in his career, launching the discus 58.25m.

Both Law and Percy are reigning Scottish champions and will be part of a team led by hammer thrower Taylor Campbell and shot putter Amelia Strickler.

The Scots will use the European Throws Cup as an important event in their winter schedule, with Percy saying it was a "huge honour” to be selected for the team.

Peter Stanley, Head of Field & Combined Events at British Athletics, said: "The European Throwing Cup is an important event on the international calendar for our athletes and it is fantastic – and demonstrates the strength we currently have – that we have been able to select the maximum number of 11 athletes this year.

"We are looking forward to seeing our athletes make the most of the opportunity Leiria presents.’
