Scotland fans were left furious with Sky Sports earlier this week after presenter Mike Wedderburn flippantly dismissed interest in football north of the border.

Sky Sports News moved to discuss Scotland's under-21s squad announcement for upcoming crunch ties against Croatia and Greece in their Euro 2021 qualifiers.

The channel desperately wanted to discuss Chelsea midfield sensation Billy Gilmour and his inclusion in Scot Gemmill's young squad as opposed to Steve Clarke's main squad for the upcoming Israel clash.

Passing over to Scotland's correspondent Luke Shanley at Hampden, Wedderburn said: "Now Luke, let's be honest, most of the time with under-21 Scottish football, you might think, 'Right, why are we interested?'

"We're interested because of 18-year-old Billy Gilmour."

Even Shanley appeared somewhat uncomfortable with the introduction and fans were livid with the level of disrespect shown to Scottish football - and let the broadcaster know.

One blasted: "Poor, poor stuff from Sky. Considering the amount of subscribers up here who have to listen to pish like this. It’s verging on disrespect". Another added: "Wow @SkySportsNews This is how you treat thousands of subscribers who are interested? Unbelievable".

One complained: "Hugely ignorant from Sky Sports News," while a fourth snapped: "Arrogant, same crap that has always been happening and not just football."
