Rangers' home clash against Bayer Leverkusen will go ahead as planned this evening after fears UEFA were planning to suspend the Europa League.

It comes as Gers were set to welcome the German outfit to Ibrox this evening.

We told how this was a possibility after games in the Champions League were played behind closed doors this week. But it is now understood the governing body hopes to prevent coronavirus outbreak spreading further, but will wait until March 17 to discuss future plans.

The second-leg of Gers' last-16 tie was already scheduled to take place without fans in the stadium next week but it is not yet known how long the suspension will last.

A spokesperson for UEFA said: "In the light of the ongoing developments in the spread of COVID-19 across Europe and the changing analysis of the World Health Organisation, UEFA has today invited representatives of its 55 member associations, together with the boards of the European Club Association and the European Leagues and a representative of FIFPro, to attend meetings by videoconference on Tuesday 17 March to discuss European football’s response to the outbreak.

"Discussions will include all domestic and European competitions, including UEFA EURO 2020.

"Further communication will be made following those meetings."
