A POPULAR Glasgow foodie event will go cashless in a bid to keep customers safe during the coronavirus outbreak.

Platform, which runs at the former Arches nightclub venue on Argyle Street, said this weekend's event will be open - although no cash will be exchanged between food vendors and their customers.

In a statement, Platform said: "We have been a little quiet this week...like everyone we have been closely monitoring the developments with the COVID 19 situation here in Scotland.

"Whilst we don't believe in scaremongering we also have a huge responsibility to our many customers, partners, traders, and staff. Their health and wellbeing is and always will be our top priority.

"Following the most recent government advice, we will be open for business as normal (well as much as is possible) but we wanted to give you a little extra info.

"We are taking every precaution possible to minimise risks, all employees are reminded to wash their hands regularly and we urge our customers to do the same.

"All food traders will wear gloves as normal. Most importantly this weekend we are going cashless, so please ensure you are ready to pay by card to minimise any contact between staff, traders and customers.

"If you feel you are experiencing any symptoms we urge you to stay at home, look after yourselves and take care, nothing is more important than your health."

The event runs on a Friday and Saturday from noon to midnight.
