GLASGOW University has confirmed three people have tested positive for COVID-19. 

The university confirmed the cases in a tweet and added all individuals are self-isolating. 

It announced earlier on Saturday that face-to-face teaching will be suspended as of Monday, March 16. 

All exams scheduled to take place in April and May will not be taking place in the exam halls.

A statement reads: "We want to advise you that three individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 and all three are self-isolating.

"Guidance from health officials is that cases like these are to be expected given the outbreak.

"Confirmation of positive results is entirely to be expected as the pandemic evolves. We're working closely with Health Protection Scotland & will remain open – though, face-to-face teaching will cease from Mon 16 March.

"As a precautionary measure, we are in touch with Glasgow University Student Representative's Council, the student unions and others across our campuses to discuss postponing events such as conferences. Some of these have already been cancelled."

It is not yet known if those affected are students or staff. 

The University of the West of Scotland confirmed that a student had tested positive for COVID-19. 

A student at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) is self-isolating and is showing symptoms of the virus. 

Both GCU and Glasgow University will introduce online teaching after face-to-face classes are suspended as of Monday, March 16.
