The Buchanan Street Apple store has closed its doors for the next two weeks to prevent the spread of coronavirus. 

All Apple stores across the globe closed immediately following an announcement by CEO Tim Cook. 

They will remain closed until March 27. 

The exception are the Apple stores located in China which have just reopened on Saturday.

Glasgow's Apple stores on Buchanan Street and in the Braehead Shopping Centre both have updated opening times on the Apple store. They are indicated as closed for the next week. 

Glasgow Times:

CEO Tim Cook wrote on Twitter: "In our workplaces and communities, we must do all we can to prevent the spread of COVID-19. 

"Apple will be temporarily closing all stores outside of Greater Chine until March 27 and committing $15m to help with worldwide recovery."

Customers are advised to use the online stores or to use support.apple.com for any service and support needs. 

Workers will continue to be paid their usual wage and policies have been expanded to accommodate personal or family health circumstances created by COVID-19.

The statement by the CEO added: "There is no mistaking the challenge of this moment.

"The entire Apple family is indebted to the heroic first responders, doctors, nurses, researchers, public health experts and public servants globally who have given every ounce of their spirit to help the world meet this moment.

"We do not yet know with certainty when the greatest risk will be behind us."
