John McGlynn believes Raith Rovers have proven they are the best team in League One as they await a decision on the future of the current season.

It has been suggested the campaign could be called to a halt permanently after initially being suspended on Friday because of the coronavirus pandemic.

If the SPFL take current league placings as finishing positions, Rovers would be handed the League One title and promotion back to the Championship.

The division is less clear cut than in the other leagues, where Celtic, Dundee United and Cove Rangers have commanding leads, and a legal challenge would be probable.

The National:

McGlynn is adamant he and his players would want to complete the final eight fixtures as they bid to hold off Falkirk, who are just a point below, and Airdrie and Montrose further back.

However, the Stark’s Park boss believes football supporters have to accept that these are exceptional times for the game and he has made his case for Rovers being viewed as the third-tier’s most deserving winners if the campaign is cut short.

He said: “There are massive, massive questions to be answered with regards the league season.

“If you’re in the middle of the table you’re probably not that bothered but if you’re anywhere else – if you’re near the top or near the bottom - it does affect you.

“No-one has ever been in this situation, so how do we know what’s going to happen? There will be a lot of speculation and who has the answers?

“I do want the games to get played but I wouldn’t be a lover of playing behind closed doors.

The National:

“But nothing is normal right now and it’s very, very difficult.

“We’ve played 28 games and we’ve done what we can possibly do over the 28 games to be at the top of the table.

“We’ve been top of the league for 21 of those 28 games and that would suggest we’ve been the best team in the league.

“Obviously, we want to finish the season but this is certainly not normal.”
