A GLASGOW MSP has called for energy companies to keep customers’ lights on as coronavirus begins to trouble the economy.

Bob Doris, the SNP MSP for Maryhill and Springburn, wants energy suppliers to ensure a “a humane and consistent approach” if customers cannot get out to top up their meters.

In a letter to the energy industry, Mr Doris urged companies to ensure top-up meter customers were not left in the cold and dark due if they were self-isolating or pay points were closed.

He said: “Energy companies must do the right thing and act now to protect this group. There is an overriding public interest to offer them reassur-ances that they will be protected now but also that they are not burdened with debt once the crisis ends.”
