Celtic joined forces with the rest of Europe this morning by playing You’ll Never Walk Alone at Parkhead in a show of solidarity during the coronavirus pandemic. 

The Hoops live streamed the anthem blaring over the tannoy in Glasgow to show supporters that everyone is standing by each other during this tough time.

Footage of the song being played was posted to Celts’ social media channels and supporters were clearly touched with over 3,000 liking the post.

One supporter wrote: “An amazing gesture, proud to Celtic as always.”

Another posted: “Jesus I wasn’t ready for those emotions at this time in the morning.”

And a third said: “Hail Hail, take care everyone.”

Liverpool also took part and posted an emotional version to their Twitter page with the caption: “We stand together. You’ll Never Walk Alone.”

Numerous radio stations such as BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 2 also joined in by booming the song over the airwaves.

A Celtic statement yesterday read: "This Friday, March 20 at 7.45am, Europe will unite behind the anthem, You’ll Never Walk Alone, in the face of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

"The song, which has long been synonymous with both Celtic and Liverpool, two of world football’s most famous sporting institutions, will be played on radio stations throughout Europe at the same time (7.45am Celtic Park time) in a show of solidarity amongst all the nations of the continent.

"Celtic will play You’ll Never Walk Alone at Celtic Park at 7.45am on Friday morning, while Liverpool will also acknowledge the song's importance at this time.

"Supporters are urged NOT to come to Celtic Park, but the playing of the song, one which represents togetherness and unity and is so close to the hearts of our fans, will be streamed LIVE from Paradise on Celtic’s official social media platforms."
