At her morning press conference, the First Minister said the advice to stop socialising is not “merely optional” adding “I know that there will be some of you who want to head out to the pub for a final night out.

"My guidance is crystal clear - please do not so this.

"This advice is not optional.

"It is it vital for own protection, for the protection of your loved ones and for the NHS".

The First Minister said she understands people, particularly young people, will be wanting to socialise but urges them not to take the risk.

She added: "We cannot carry on as normal. Life right now is not normal."

On stockpiling, she added: "Do not do that. There is no need to do that.

"There is more than enough to go round."

Meanwhile, Chief Medical Officer Catherine Calderwood added we are on the cusp of a rapid acceleration of COVID-19 cases in Scotland, with evidence of "sustained community transmission".
