A MAN has died following a disturbance within a garden at a block of flats in Springburn.

Emergency services were called Elmvale Street at around 3.50pm on Tuesday where a man was taken by ambulance to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he died a short time later.

Police have now arrested and charged a 43-year-old man in connection with the death, which is being treated by officers as "suspicious".

Forensics crews could be seen in the area throughout the day will officers probed the incident.

An eyewitness, who is a keyworker, last night said: “On Tuesday I drove by and there was a police van sitting outside a close.

“Today both sides of the road are closed and there is a police van on the street.

"At a close behind Hawthron Street an officer is standing in the doorway of one of the flats.

"The officer has his mask on."

Formal identification of the man is yet to take place.

A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal. 

Detective Inspector Stuart Grainger of the Major Investigation Team said: "Enquiries are at an early stage and we are appealing for anyone who witnessed the disturbance or who has any information which may be relevant to come forward."
