Shops are closing. Newspaper sales are falling. But we’ve chosen to keep our online journalism free because it’s so important that the people of Glasgow stay informed during this crisis.

To help us get through this, we’re asking readers who can afford it to contribute either £3, £5 or £8 a month to the Glasgow Times.

A community group helping Glasgow's homeless is running out of food and resources to continue helping the city's most vulnerable.

The volunteers of Glasgow's Kindness Homeless Street Team are asking for help in feeding the homeless.

Glasgow City Council has ensured temporary accommodation for rough sleepers during the coronavirus outbreak, but volunteers from the community group say they have no access to food.

One of the volunteers, Jonathan Lockhart, said: "We go out every day and there is literally a queue of about 50 people waiting for us when we turn up.

"We are not a charity we are just a group of people looking to help people out."

However, the group only has food and money left for another two days of supporting the homeless.

Mr Lockhart added: "Then these people will have nothing, no resources at all.

"We are relying completely on the goodwill of the people of Glasgow. It has been fantastic until now, but it is no longer enough."

The group used to go out once a fortnight but is now hitting the streets daily to support the vulnerable.

With limited resources, there is no longer enough food for each day and the volunteer is concerned about people fighting each other for food.

In the heartfelt appeal he added: "We really need your help, if you can provide any food, toiletries, clothes, things like, Pot Noodles, cup a soups, bread, some of these places have toasters and things like this, any kind of food we can give out on the day.

"Sandwiches are a big thing, chocolate, sweets things like that.

"We need toiletries, toothpaste, sanitary products and we need some money as well, we are now funding it ourselves because the donations we get are just not enough anymore."

A Go Fund Me page has also been set up so the team can continue its valuable work.
