A MAN smashed his own bedroom window from within his flat and risked injuring people below from falling shards of glass because he was 'frustrated' with his neighbours.

George Miller, 46, was intoxicated on drugs when he flew into a rage at the property on Greenock's Nicolson Street.

But he has gone unpunished after a sheriff decided to admonish him following a period of deferred sentence for him to be of good behaviour.

Miller began smashing the window shortly before 11am on August 23 last year.

He was caught and arrested after two police officers on foot patrol heard the sound of breaking glass and made their way to the flat.

Prosecutor John Penman told Greenock Sheriff Court: "The accused was smashing a double glazed pane of glass at his bedroom window, causing shards to fall onto the footpath, narrowly missing pedestrians and vehicles."

Miller pleaded guilty to culpably and recklessly smashing the window and placing people in danger of injury.

The court heard that the shards of broken glass fell onto the public footpath directly below his flat.

He had also been charged with behaving in a threatening or abusive manner and shouting and swearing but his not guilty plea to this was accepted by the Crown.

Miller's denial of a separate charge of stealing a 'quantity of fragrance' from Sports Direct on West Stewart Street the previous month was also accepted.

Defence lawyer Gerry Keenan said: "He was under the influence of a controlled drug and he had pent up frustration with his neighbours."
