A Dubai-based Rangers fan has tragically died after reportedly contracting coronavirus

Ryan Storrie, originally from Ardrossan, took unwell after returning to Scotland for the Ibrox side's Europa League clash with Bayer Leverkusen on March 12.

The dad-of-two had planned to travel back home to the Middle Eastern country, but was hospitalised with suspected coronavirus.

According to the Scottish Sun, Ryan passed away in hospital on March 31.

Rangers fan page 'The Gers TV' led tributes to the supporter on Facebook.

They wrote: "I have just heard the sad news that one of our viewers, a friend, a fan and loyal Orangeman Ryan Storrie has passed away. Aged only 40 and leaving behind a wife and young family, due to COVID-19 virus. 

"The Gers TV offers our sympathy to Ryans friends, family and lodge members."

Hundreds of fans offered their condolences as they too paid tribute to "a gem of a guy".

One friend wrote: "I honestly cannot believe what I'm reading.

"Ryan Storrie, taken way too soon, mate. This virus is no joke! 

"Rest easy, Ryan."

Another added: "I can't believe it, I was hoping it wasnt true, devastating news.

"Thoughts go to all Ryan Storrie family. Wat a gem of a guy.

"RIP brother, sleep easy".

It is unclear if Ryan had any underlying health conditions at the time of this death.
