COUNCIL bosses have closed Glasgow's parks to all vehicles.

People can still walk and cycle in the parks for daily exercise - following government and NHS guidelines - but only authorised vehicles will be allowed entry to parks until further notice.

There were concerns that people are still making unnecessary journeys in their cars, despite the coronavirus lockdown.

Pollok Country Park, Bellahouston and Tollcross parks, which have car parks, are affected but the restriction applies to all city parks.

A statment on Glasgow City Council's website reads: "During the current public health crisis, we urge anyone wishing to undertake daily exercise to do so in their local community and to leave the car at home.

"Please avoid any unnecessary journeys and do not drive to one of our parks as usual car parking facilities will not be available."

Shops are closing. Newspaper sales are falling. But we’ve chosen to keep our coverage of the Coronavirus crisis free because it’s so important that the people of Glasgow stay informed during this difficult time.

To help us get through this, we’re asking readers who can afford it to contribute either £3, £5 or £8 a month to the Glasgow Times.

If you choose to sign up, we’ll also take away all the adverts – and deliver a digital version of the print paper to your device. Click here to help Save Your Times: www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/subscribe
