A DOG walker was taken to hospital after being assaulted during a dispute about pets fighting.

The incident happened in South Dean Road near the junction of Forbes Place in Kilmarnock at around 11.30am on Sunday.

A 59-year-old woman who was walking a black Labrador in Dean Park met a woman walking another dog, possibly a French bulldog, when both animals tried to fight.

The woman walked away but was then approached by a man in a silver car who confronted her about the incident.

Shortly afterwards, she was walking in South Dean Road near the junction of Forbes Place when she was pushed to the ground from behind.

The same woman and man who she met earlier drove away in the same silver car.

She suffered serious injuries to her finger and minor injuries to her head, knee and ribs.

The victim received treatment at Crosshouse Hospital.

Detective Constable Nicola Fraser, of Kilmarnock CID, said: “We’re appealing to anyone who was in the area and either witnessed the incident or perhaps recognises the description of the man and woman involved to contact us.”
