THIRTY new homes could be developed in the south of Glasgow provided developers are given the green light by council planning officials.

The proposed development would create social housing made up of 14, two-bedroom mid-terraces, six, three-bed end terraces, five, two-bed lower cottage flats and five, two-bed upper cottage flats on vacant land situated at Kilmuir Crescent.

There is already a mixture of residential homes to the west and housing is currently under construction to the south.

A design statement submitted on behalf of AS Homes Scotland Ltd, points out that the application is in line with the 2036 ClydePlan vision.

Its aim is that within 16 years Glasgow and the Clyde Valley will be a resilient, sustainable compact city region attracting and retaining investment while improving the quality of life for people.

It also intends to reduce inequalities through the creation of a place which maximises its economic, social and environmental assets while ensuring it fulfils its potential as Scotland’s most foremost city region.

AS Homes state in their application: “In line with the provisions of ClydePlan, the proposals involve the redevelopment of vacant land in a sustainable location to create high quality housing with integrated and useable open space.

“These open spaces will be welcoming and adaptable as well as safe and pleasant, whilst the design of the units complements the existing area.”

The site will be accessible by a range of transport modes with the A727 (Nitshill Road) located beyond the business estate to the south, while access is available to the M77 which connects to Glasgow in the north and Kilmarnock in the south.

There are already bus routes in place including Kilmuir Road as well as train services, with Kennishead rail station less than a mile from the north of the development area.

An access route for pedestrians and vehicles will be situated Kilmuir Crescent. A report will be brought before planning officials in due course.
