A THUG who threatened to kill his former lover just 11 days after assaulting her is behind bars.

James Nugent pushed his victim and put a knife to her throat last November in Robroyston.

Enraged Nugent believed she had let “strangers” into the house.

The 38-year-old was arrested and held in custody but breached his bail order 11 days later by visiting her and telling her he was going to kill her once he “got fit.”

Nugent pled guilty today at Glasgow Sheriff Court to the assault on her and acting in a threatening or abusive manner.

He also admitted damaging property and breaching bail.

The pair had separated after a nine years on-off relationship.

The court heard a raging Nugent walked into the house uninvited.

He threw  a bowl of soup at the wall and searched the kitchen cupboards and found a small wrap of clingfilm with “green matter” inside.

Nugent said: “Who the f***’s was this? someone has been in here, you’re having strangers in my house.”

He continued to shout and swear and pushed her on the shoulders. Prosecutor Mark Allan added: “Nugent produced a kitchen knife from his pocket and put the knife towards her and said ‘I will go for your throat’.”

The victim ran from the house and flagged down an ambulance who contacted the police.

Officers later arrived to find the knife in the TV and Nugent holding the clingfilm.

He said: “Look what she had in her house” before being arrested.

Nugget appeared in court and was given bail and ordered not to contact her or visit her home.

Eleven days later he turned up there.

She fled the house and told a neighbour to contact the police.

Nugent said: “I’m going anywhere, I will be here when you get back.”

Nugent was arrested again and  as he was being led to a police van told her: “It doesn’t matter how long it takes, I’m going to get fit and I’m going to kill you.”

Mr Allan told the court that he will be seeking a non-harassment order.

Sentence was deferred until June for background reports by Sheriff Paul Crozier, who remanded Nugent in custody meantime.
