A YOUNG man has died after a disturbance in Wishaw.

Thomas Nelson, 24, was taken to the University Hospital Wishaw but died a short time later following the incident in the town's Carron Street at around 2.05 am on Tuesday.

Police Scotland said they have arrested and charged a 28-year-old in connection with the death. 

A full report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal in due course and the man is expected to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court today.

Detective Inspector John Easton, from the Major Investigations team, said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Thomas at this very difficult time.

“Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding his death are ongoing and we are keen to talk to anyone who may have information or who may have seen what happened.”
