THIEVES finding it difficult to break into homes during lockdown have turned their attention to work vans according to cops.

Officers in East Dunbartonshire said that while housebreaking is down in the area - there has been an increase in thefts from work vans parked outside properties.

The division has received reports from Bearsden, Milngavie, and Bishopbriggs with thieves carrying out the break-ins in the early hours of the morning.

Some of the streets targeted included Viewfield Drive, Gleneagles Gardens, Stella Road, Kirkstall Gardens in Bishopbriggs.

It is believed those carrying out the thefts could be operating from an old silver Vauxhall Vectra.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Because folk are staying in, housebreaking are down but break-ins to work vans especially in Bishopbriggs, Bearsden, and Milngavie in the early hours are up.

"We have ongoing actions to target these thieves.

"Help us by not leaving high-value items in a van and call if you see anything suspicious."
