THESE are tough and uncertain times. But, our city continues to come together to make them a little bit better for all.
Thousands across Glasgow paid tribute last night to frontline NHS staff and carers who are working hard to tackle the impact of coronavirus across the country.
This included staff at Glasgow Central Station, which was lit-up blue to show solidarity to key workers.
Elsewhere, Glasgow Airport crews and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde medics also sent their messages of support to those doing their bit to help others during this difficult time.
The illumination of Glasgow Central came as people throughout the country once again joined in a mass round of applause at 8pm on Thursday to thank NHS staff for their incredible work.
Staff at the station also came together under the station’s iconic clock to join the applause and show their support for all of our key workers.
Alex Hynes, Managing Director at Scotland’s Railway said: “We are delighted to illuminate the iconic Glasgow Central Station as a symbol of public support for the vital and fantastic work of NHS staff who are tackling the coronavirus.
“We are humbled on a daily basis by the bravery and dedication shown by staff in the NHS and we are grateful to all key workers across the country, including those in our railway family, who are playing a massive role in supporting the country at this time.”
On the outskirts of the city, staff at Glasgow Airport also paused at 8pm and joined in the applause for key workers.
Emergency crews and other workers joined together on the runway to show their support.
Mark Johnston, managing director of Glasgow Airport, said: "Our NHS staff continue to be heroes in the fight against coronavirus.
"Everyone that's working in Glasgow Airport tonight would like to show their appreciation and say thank you for the incredible work you are doing."
The 8pm applause for NHS staff has become a frequent fixture during Covid-19 and scores of people all across the UK cheer for our heroes.
However, NHS GGC medics used last night's moment to pay their own tribute to workers in supermarkets across the city.
In a video posted on social media, nurses and doctors from across the health board said thanks.
This included Vicki Shaw, senior charge nurse at the eye department in Paisley's Royal Alexandra Hospital, who said: "I'd like to say a big thank you to the supermarkets for giving NHS staff protected shopping time.
This week we're saying thank you to all the amazing staff supporting us at our supermarkets #StayAtHome #SaveLives #ProtectTheNHS #StaySafe #NHSGGC #SupportOurNHS #ClapForKeyWorkers pic.twitter.com/YtgufE1PJT

"It does make a huge difference to us all and we greatly appreciate it.
"I'd like to remind the general public to stay at home, stay safe, and protect your NHS."
