THIS is the heartwarming moment a 'super gran' left hospital after beating Coronavirus

Catherine Reilly, 86, was given a standing ovation by medics at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, in Paisley, as she was discharged from Ward 5. 

Known to her grandchildren as 'super gran', chiefs at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde say her family is delighted to have her home.

The lovely scenes come on the same day we told of some of the ways Glasgow came together last night to pay tribute to frontline NHS staff and carers.

This included staff at Glasgow Central Station, which was lit-up blue to show solidarity to key workers. 

Elsewhere, Glasgow Airport crews and NHS GGC medics also sent their messages of support to those doing their bit to help others during this difficult time.

They were taking part in the 8pm applause for NHS staff, which has become a frequent fixture during Covid-19 and scores of people all across the UK cheer for our heroes.

However, NHS GGC medics used last night's moment to pay their own tribute to workers in supermarkets across the city. 

In a video posted on social media, nurses and doctors from across the health board said thanks. 

This included Vicki Shaw, senior charge nurse at the eye department in the RAH, who said: "I'd like to say a big thank you to the supermarkets for giving NHS staff protected shopping time."
