MORE than £10,000 has been raised for The Samaritans by the heartbroken family of a missing man who is believed to have tragically died.

Joseph Duffy disappeared from the city's Newlands area last Saturday, April 11.

The 39-year-old was last seen around midnight just before going to bed at his home in Kirkoswald Road.

He was not in the house on the Saturday morning and his family contacted police and reported him missing.

His family have paid tribute to him on social media although Police Scotland's diving teams continue to search the River Clyde for his body.

Now a fundraising drive set up in the aftermath of his disappearance has raised a total of £10,493.68 in memory of the Celtic fan.

His cousin Gillian Thomson, who set up the page said: "Our family would like to raise money towards our chosen charity 'Samaritans'.

"We want to encourage all men in Scotland of any age, feeling down, stressed or worried, to ask for help when they need it, without fear of failure.

"Joseph was the happiest person in our lives and always had the biggest smile.

"A true gentleman with a heart of gold.

"As a family, we are distraught by his sudden death.

"We want to raise awareness that it is okay to ask for help and reach out when you need it.

"Male suicide is the biggest killer in men under the age of 45 in the UK and 75 percent of all suicides are male. Please call Samaritans if you are needing help on 116 123."

She added: "Let everyone know that it is okay to not be okay.

"We wish we could have helped Joseph and our hearts are broken.

"We will sorely miss him and continue to love him every minute of everyday."

The Glasgow Times was previously told by Police Scotland that officers have been reviewing CCTV footage and there is evidence to suggest Joseph may have entered the River Clyde at the King George V Bridge.

If anyone has any information they are asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 1411 of 11 April 2020.
