A PRIVATE hire firm has gone the extra mile in recent weeks to support Glasgow’s most vulnerable during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Kind-hearted staff at Network Private Hire have been doing their bit across the city by backing foodbanks, NHS staff, and frontline workers tackling the spread of the virus.

And recently, the Blochairn Road-based taxi company, which has been impacted by a fall in traffic due to Scotland-wide measures to reduce the effect of coronavirus, dropped off an ‘egg-sellent’ gift for hardworking medics at The Royal Hospital for Children.

Generous chiefs delivered more than 800 Easter eggs for staff and patients last weekend.

A Network spokesperson told the Glasgow Times: “We don’t do any of this for recognition and are just doing it to help people out during a difficult time.

“There are so many unsung heroes out there who are doing so much good work which goes unrecognised to support some of the most vulnerable people in our community.

“We buy eggs every year and normally deliver them to the nurseries. We also deliver selection boxes to children across the city.

“We were able to deliver some before lockdown hit and we still had around 800 left and we couldn’t think of anyone more worthy of them than those working in the NHS.”

The eggs were received by nurse Catrina Barclay, who took to Twitter to share her thanks.

She wrote: “Thank you so much for your kind donation to the children’s cancer unit. Much appreciated.”

A NHS spokesperson added: “We are always very grateful for donations to the Royal Hospital for Children.

“Network Private Hire’s efforts are very generous and will ensure the children in the hospital get a chocolate treat.”

Staff at Network are continuing to support NHS workers and are offering a £2 fare discount for all travel in the city.

Meanwhile, the firm has also showed its support for local businesses and community groups.

As well as Shettleston Juniors’ scheme to feed pensioners in the city’s East End, Network have been making daily deliveries for grocers Firm Banana.
