CCTV coverage of Alloa Town Centre has been expanded by Alloa First in a bid to bring “peace of mind” to locals.

There are now 16 cameras monitoring the area, after Alloa First moved to “phase two” of its CCTV plan.

The group – which works on behalf of local businesses and organisations to ensure the town centre thrives – increased coverage to ensure people feel safe.

A statement included in Alloa First’s weekly update said: “Following the recent survey asking businesses what their top priorities were over the next few months, security and safety of premises was in the top three.

“In response to this we have installed an additional seven cameras bringing the total to 16 covering the town centre.

“We have also [upgraded] the hard drives which will give storage of approximately four weeks. We hope this offers some reassurance and peace of mind to all.”

On Twitter, a spokesperson added that all cameras are now “up, working and giving peace of mind to our businesses, community and people who still need to go out and about”.
