PRIMES are gearing up to release a feel-good summer track as a bit of a distraction for all those stuck inside during the lockdown.

The Falkirk trio will return this week with Moment – their eighth single and a follow up to November's release of Dreamer and I.

While they are unable to support the release with a launch night, the band were determined to put out some new material as a means of providing some relief to all those stuck indoors.

And Sarah Montieth-Skelton, who plays the guitar and performs backing vocals, is confident the song will resonate with fans as the summer months approach.

She told The Weekender: "Moment is a song about being able to capture life, embracing it when you can and living for now. It's about leaving the past where it belongs, looking forward positively and just enjoying life in the moment.

"It compares to most of our releases with regards to beefy rock grooves, harmonies, catchy hooks and powerful choruses.

"Although there is our usual rock presence there, this track offers a slightly different spin on our style with a subtle pop underlay and dance beat to drive the song. It has a nice happy summer feel to it."

Dreamer and I proved to be a notable success for the band – in terms of streaming, it is already their most popular release.

"This is no doubt a different scenario from any of our other releases so far. It's a very difficult and strange time."

The trio had been aiming to follow the same methods of promoting their latest song, but the current climate means their plans have had to be re-drawn.

"I think we are learning something new every time we release another new track," Montieth-Skelton reflects. "We have a lot of drive when it comes to getting as much exposure as we can and that is something we really focus on for a release.

"Having a track ready for release is amazing but we have learned, the track will only be as big as the campaign and the promotion that's behind it."

She continues: "This is no doubt a different scenario from any of our other releases so far. It's a very difficult and strange time.

"We just plan to do as much online as we can, stay active and drive the release on social media.

"We would love to celebrate its release with our fans at a gig, but we will try to do that online and make the best out of the situation."

Indeed, the Covid-19 outbreak and subsequent public restrictions cast doubt on whether PRIMES would postpone the release of Moment.

Not being able to launch the single and promote the track with gigs was no doubt a huge concern. But the prospect of reaching people who are crying out for new material was ultimately too persuasive.

"We had been in the studio just before lockdown so there are a couple of surprises on its way in the very near future."

The PRIMES guitarist says: "The pandemic is still ongoing with no signs of when things will settle down so we had to make a decision to release during or after the lockdown.

"We made the decision to release during this as some new music might just be what people want to hear and it's certainly been a healthy distraction for us getting things ready."

PRIMES are known for pursuing a rigorous write, record and release cycle, with a new single out, on average, every three months.

With Nine Lives and Dreamer and I both doing so well in 2019, it was clear the band were eager to come flying out the traps in 2020.

Moment was to be the first of many this year, but the trio will not play victim.

Indeed, while their plan has taken a knock, they remain well-prepared to unleash their latest work when the time comes.

"We were writing loads before lockdown and have continued to do so in the meantime," Montieth Skelton confirms. "We had been in the studio just before lockdown so there are a couple of surprises on its way in the very near future.

"We have another three releases already prepared and ready to go, though it's hard to say when they will be out due to the uncertainty that's going on. But we will try to be as active as we can be regardless of the situation."
