A COMMUNITY support group has been launched in Cardonald to help members of the public who are struggling access essential items.

Cardonald Covid-19 Community Support was launched by councillors Elaine McSporran and Alex Wilson to help anyone who may be affected through self-isolation or quarantine in Mosspark, Corkerhill, Cardonald, Hillington, Penilee, North Pollok and Crookston.

They have been working with the local Morrisons, Mosspark and Corkerhill community council, Hillington, North Cardonald & Penilee community council, Corkerhill Hub and Pollok United to identify those in need.

Councillor McSporran said: “During the first couple of weeks while everything was starting to close, I made up some emergency packs for some vulnerable neighbours.

“This included toilet roll, sanitiser, gloves, hankies, tea, coffee, sugar and donated soaps. Marcus the manager of Morrisons in Cardonald kindly had his community champion staff Jeni and Liz donate some cupboard goods and I added this to the packs.

“I then made a request to all of our community councils and received a positive response from two of them.

“I had a list of our most vulnerable residents were unable to get an online shop or click and collect and no family nearby to help and provided them each with a food parcel.”

The councillors have been identifying elderly, lone residents and vulnerable families who are unable to get food, their prescription or just need a friendly chat.
