A HAIR obsessed schoolboy has shaved off his locks for a charity that proved to be a lifeline for his family when his mum was battling suspected coronavirus.

Ayden French has raised more than £1,700 for Family Action Rogerfield and Easterhouse (FARE).

The 10-year-old St Benedict's Primary School pupil witnessed first hand the work they do in his own community after his mum Natalie Dobbs called on them for shopping when she was forced to self-isolate the family after exhibiting mild symptoms of coronavirus.

Mum-of-four Natalie, 34, from Easterhouse, said: "I had symptoms of the virus at the start of lockdown so I didn't leave the house.

"I couldn't get a delivery slot from the supermarkets for weeks.

"I came across FARE on Facebook and saw they were delivering food packages to those who needed it so I had to use it.

"That did me for a few days and I donated £20 to their page.

"Ayden saw it first hand when I had to use the service."

Once deciding on FARE as the charity for his voluntary shave off, Ayden filmed the moment to prove he had said goodbye to his locks forever.

Natalie, who is also mum to Declan, 16, Brendyn, 9, and Patrick,7 said: "Anyone who knows Ayden knows he loves his hair. He recently got a perm and his hair is his thing.

"He never goes to school without his comb and hairspray."

She added: "I am so proud of him and we are overwhelmed. He thought he would get £50 to help one family because lots of people are shaving their hair at the moment anyway but we didn't expect this.

"Another local charity also said that foodbanks would not survive without heroes like Ayden so he was chuffed at that."

Ms Jacqueline Daly, acting headteacher of St Benedict's Primary School, said: “Ayden plays up front for our football team and is a valued player and goal scorer. He doesn’t score many goals with his head as he is too worried about his perfect hairstyle.

“Image is everything to top strikers - shaving his hair for charity was a BIG thing for Ayden. We are all very proud of his charitable deed and putting the need of others before himself and his flowing locks.”
