The 47-year-old Mosspark man has been nominated by his niece Michelle McCue, who says he is always going about his work with a sense of humour, despite the current situation.

The mother-of-one said: “He works so hard and deserves some sort of recognition for everything that he does.

“He has such a positive sense of humour and it must really help when people are feeling down and low.

“My mum is even going through cancer treatment and Uncle John is always there for her and going the extra mile.”

Celtic fan John is married to Angie and lives with her and stepchildren TJ and Lisa.

He also has a daughter, Shannon McCue, from a previous relationship, who now lives in Elgin.

Michelle, 33, added: “With everything that is going on, John deserves a shout out and some praise.

“He is risking his health every day to help others.”

Meanwhile, Lynne Darby has nominated two of her very good friends for their tireless dedication to others.

Both Gemma McMullen and Kim Lochhead have put in extra hours to be there for everyone in the city’s East End.

Riddrie woman Gemma, 31, works in Asda at the Forge Retail Park and continues to turn up with a smile on her face despite the difficulties of also caring for kids Kara, 14, and nine-year-old Jack.

Meanwhile, 43-year-old Kim supports some of the area’s most vulnerable as a home carer, which she has done for around ten years.

Mother-of-two Lynne said: “Gemma is one of my closest friends and she is continuing to work in Asda to provide a service so many people still need and rely on.

“She is having to work while also deal with the schools being off and having two children.

“We rightly recognise what the NHS is doing for us and are so thankful to everyone in it.

“But, people like Gemma are also doing so much for so many and deserve some recognition.”

Kim is married to John and mother to Zoe, 14, and six-year-old Liam and Lynne added: “She is going in to care for so many people and always putting them first.”
