A MAN attacked his girlfriend just hours after his mother’s funeral.

Iain Hampson yanked Caitlin McManus by the hair and knocked her to the ground at her flat in Broomhill last November.

When police turned up, the 21-year-old had a knife on him.

Hampson was charged and bailed with an order not to go near Miss McManus

He was also on licence at the time following an earlier robbery conviction.

But, he struck again after a “chance meeting” with the 21-year-old at a shopping centre near her home.

Prosecutor Mark Allan said: “They saw Hampson seize hold of her arms and push her. He then struck her on the head.”

The dad-of-one fled but was traced via CCTV.

He faces jail again after admitting to the two assaults, breaching bail and possession of the knife.

Ian Sievwright, defending, said: “His mother died on November 12 after a difficult battle with cancer and a brain aneurism.

“This was having an effect on him - the funeral was the day before the offence.”

Hampson will be sentenced later this month.
