A HOUSEBREAKER who stole £1050 worth of items was snared after he left a receipt with his name on it at the property.
Jean Covaciu, 23, also dropped cigarette papers which had his two finger prints on it in May 2016.
Covaciu stole £300 in cash, a change jar and jewellery from Kevin Kennan’s house in Shawlands.
Covaciu pleaded guilty today at Glasgow Sheriff Court to breaking into the flat.
He also admitted failing to appear at a court hearing in May 2019.
The court heard the Romanian national entered the property between 7.30am and 19.30pm.
Mr Kennan returned to find his door lock damaged and his drawers and boxes opened.
A 999 call was made which prompted a police investigation of the property.
Prosecutor Mark Allan said: “Officers found a bank receipt in the name of the accused and two packets of cigarettes.
“The cigarette papers were found to have two finger prints on them.”
Officers later traced Covaciu who was arrested in December 2018 and replied: “I feel so sorry.”
Mr Allan told the court among the items stolen was a sentimental ring and the total value of the the was £1050.
Ross Anderson, defending, told the court the dad of two arrived in Scotland with his pregnant wife to work in an Indian takeaway which shut down.
He added: “Mr Covaciu was with two others in the property who he didn’t know and didn’t profit from this.
“He accepts his responsibility and the stress this would cause Mr Keenan.”
Sentence was deferred until next month for background reports as Covaciu was remanded.
