A DRUNK thug armed with a knuckleduster and garden fork in a store threatened a fellow shopper.

Stephen Kerr, 32, confronted the unknown customer at a Londis shop in Glasgow’s Govan area in February this year.

Kerr had earlier stumbled around the shop aimlessly under the influence of alcohol.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard Kerr approached the till and put a knuckleduster on the counter before asking for two plastic bags.

Kerr continued walking around the shop before opening his jacket at the garden fork falling out.

He put the weapon back in his pocket before the other customer arrived in the store.

Prosecutor Mark Allan said: “The accused challenged the member of the public by waving the fork in his direction.

“The witness asked the shopkeeper to contact the police and removed the fork from Kerr’s hand and placed it on the top of the till.”

Officers quickly attended and apprehended Kerr before seizing the weapons.

Kerr pleaded guilty on Thursday to the unlawful possession of the knuckleduster and garden fork in a public place.

Sentence was deferred until next month for background reports by Sheriff Sean Murphy QC who remanded Kerr in custody meantime.

Sheriff Murphy told Kerr: “Custody is inevitable and remains the most likely outcome.”
