A NEW restaurant could open on the South Side after plans were submitted to the city council.

Gosal Properties has asked for permission to turn part of an empty office block on Victoria Road, between the Post Office depot and Bar Vini, into a restaurant and takeaway.

Glasgow City Council previously approved plans for a restaurant on the site at the end of February.

The initial application, which included a functions room, would have changed the use of the whole building whereas the new proposal asks to retain the upper floors for office use.

The plans show 42 people could be seated in the restaurant and how a new aluminium shopfront would be fitted.

It is believed the offices, over the first and second floor, would have capacity for around 40 people.

Originally, the developer had planned to open the restaurant over the first and second floor, with the takeaway at ground level.

A council report on the initial application stated: "The proposal would bring back into active use a vacant property which will contribute to the development of a vibrant and accessible residential neighbourhood."

A letter from the applicant added: "The proposed opening hours would be 12noon to 11pm from Sunday to Thursday and noon to midnight on Friday and Saturday."
