A HOUSEBREAKER was jailed for 21 months today after five years on the run.

Daniel Lingurar, 25, stole electronics and cosmetics from two flats in Govanhill in February and March 2014.

Lingurar, whose fingerprints were found in both homes, was arrested but given bail and returned home to Romania then worked in France and Ireland.

He returned to Glasgow in January with his pregnant wife and was arrested.

Lingurar, who has a previous conviction for robbery, pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to the two housebreakings.

He also admitted failing to appear at a court hearing in August 2016.

Sheriff Lindsay Wood told Lingurar that there was no alternative to a custodial sentence.

He said: “It is an appalling offence to commit and it remains with those affected for the rest of their lives.

“To make matters worse you did it twice, didn’t turn up to court and went back to Romania for a number of years.

“Justice has caught up with you and you have no business breaking into other people’s houses no matter what the circumstances.”

The court heard Lingurar entered the first property by overcoming a secure lock system.

Lingurar swiped a Samsung Galaxy phone valued at several hundred pounds and perfume worth £100.

Eighteen days later, Lingurar broke into another property through a window.

Prosecutor Mark Allan told the court Lingurar took a camera, jewellery and electronics totalling £3,651.44.

Lingurar was snared by police who found his fingerprints at both properties.

He was released on bail in 2015 but failed to appear again at court.

Defence lawyer, Michael Poggi, defending, told the court Lingurar worked in France and Ireland before returning to Scotland

Lingurar, who was working at a cash and carry in the city’s Possilpark, answered a warrant and was arrested by police in January.

Mr Poggi added: “These offences happened when he was younger and new to Glasgow.

“He was mixing with the wrong people as a young man but now has family commitments.”
