A FOOD bank has asked the community to get involved in writing letters and sending drawings to its hub which will be distributed to elderly people living in isolation and to St Margaret’s of Scotland Hospice.

Hill View Care Home has also got involved, as residents have now gone weeks without visits from family.

Centre81 food bank is working in conjunction with the community and the hospice in Whitecrook to put a smile on the faces of elderly who are unable to go out due to their high vulnerability.

Gill McCormick, Cafe81’s manager, said: “We really appreciate the effort of the local community to support charities and food banks at this time. Our volunteers have done a great job of supplying many vulnerable and isolating individuals with emergency food parcels.

“However, one thing they have said is that they’re missing their clubs, seeing friends and getting out for their shopping and it’s making them lonely. We would love to be able to run a pen pal service where they receive letters to let them know the community are still thinking of them.

“They could write a reply, and let you know they received your letters, it would brighten up their day and might even keep you and the kids busy for a bit."

Letters for the hospice and elderly can be sent to; Gill McCormick, Centre81, Braes Avenue, G81 1DP.

And letters for Hill View should be sent to: FAO Residents and Staff, 36 Singer Road, Clydebank, G81 4SB.
