A DELIVERY driver has been stabbed twice after a thug tried to steal a package in Hamilton. 

The DPD worker was attacked while making a delivery in the town's Portland Place this afternoon. 

The Scottish Sun reports that the victim was knifed in the stomach and leg during the vicious daylight assault. 

The area has been sealed off by officers who have launched an investigation. 

The delivery driver has been taken to the hospital and his condition is unknown.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Around 12.40pm on Tuesday, may 19, police received a report of a disturbance involving two men in Portland Place, Hamilton. 

"One man has been taken to hospital following a serious assault. 

"Officers remain at the scene conducting enquiries to establish the full circumstances."
