A Plaid Cymru MP has been arrested on suspicion of assault.

Jonathan Edwards has had his party’s whip withdrawn after the arrest on Wednesday, and is said to be “complying fully with the police inquiries”.

The 44-year-old was elected as MP for Carmarthen East and Dinefwr in 2010.

A Plaid Cymru spokesperson said: “On May 20th, Jonathan Edwards MP was arrested following a report of an incident.

“The party whip has been withdrawn pending the conclusion of a police investigation.

“Mr Edwards has accepted this course of action and is complying fully with the police inquires.

“It would be inappropriate for the party to comment further at this time.”
