A 50-year-old woman and a 66-year-old man were taken to hospital after their front door was set on fire in Renfrew.
Emergency services rushed to their home in Cumbrae Road around 11.30pm on Friday after the "reckless" act took place.
The couple was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital to be assessed for smoke inhalation.

They are due to be released after treatment.
Officers are now looking for witnesses to the willful fire-raising as they investigate the incident.
Detective Constable Lauren McGill at Paisley CID said:“Deliberately starting fires is a reckless act and we are appealing for anyone with any information to get in touch.
“Anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity, witnessed the incident, who has dashcam footage or private CCTV is asked to get in touch.”
